Yer Man - "Main Event" (Original Mix) [2005]
This is a Trance Record of NoteClose to being in the house bracket, this electro-tinged, bass heavy track would suit a charging trance night. I liken it to the JCA remix of Coburn's
We Interrupt This Program, a featured track on this blog not too long ago. It's got a great surge of energy to it and the underlying samples of crowds backing up the well judged line
"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the main event of the evening" add atmosphere and a sense of grandeur to the mix. No remixes to speak of that I could locate; the original is more than essential. It's out on Mena Music and is a must have.
If you're interested in more from Yer Man, I recommend without hesitation that you check out his earlier track
Weird Therapy which is a funky-as house track form a couple of years ago that featured on the first Hed Kandi
Twisted Disco album. That track funks up a sample from a film that I know I've seen, but can't remember! Please comment if you know it! It might be from
The Rules of Attraction... oh well, anyway, get that and the new one. You won't be disappointed.

Eurythmics - "Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)" (Steve Angello Remix) [2005]
This is a House Record of NoteWith one of the finest bass lines written for the dance floor and one of House music's current favourite producers marrying up to produce a 2005 cut of this masterpiece of 80's electro you know you won't be disappointed. With flourishes and accents and only the slightest guiding hand Steve Angello teases a storming remix from this famous track. Making it shorter, punchier and just rearranging the structure slightly, he simply redelivers a masterwork.
Anyone who is a fan of the original may scoff at the similarity, but that is the beauty. By not doing anything too different and just letting the track breathe he allows us to enjoy it all over again. The new hardware and software in use and the production standards that exist in House music today serve remakes well - we get a good track re-engineered and ready to gel and mix with the new sounds that Steve and the rest of the Swedish House Mafia (Axwell, Ingrosso, Prydz) and their ilk are throwing at us. They own the 2005 dancefloor.
On first play I had people exclaiming and asking for more - and so I implore you to pick this up. It appears as a B-side to the new "I've Got a Life" single release, which is a good tune as well (especially the bass-heavy David Guetta & Jaochim Garraud remix). Find it and own it.
Out of stock at time of publishing, but check the details on
Juno. You can probably track it down in your local store.

Mike Foyle vs Signalrunners - "Love Theme Dusk" (Mike's Broken Record Mix) [2005]
This is a Trance Record of NoteA stunning and beautiful work from a new trance producer,
Mike Foyle, a young lad with some great potential. Using an original piano riff from Dave Schonauer, this record is all about the haunting beauty of the melody.
It's a distinctly touching piano based trance composition aided by the American house/trance crossover artists Signalrunners. They were championed by the top DJs recently for their anthemic "3000 Miles Away". This collaboration tune is a great follow up, and will stay with you for a long time. It's immediacy is in the scaling notes and the sound field generated by the progressive bassline. Mike Foyle's remix is my pick, it lets the piano carry the tune, whereas the Signalrunner's Sunrise mix is too much about adding interest via the bassline. One layer too many on that mix, but a good complement. The purity of the Mike mix is trademark, and the nod to the love for the repeating hook in the title of his remix is satisfying.

Holmes Ives presents Avalon Frost - "8 Letters" (Original Mix) [2005]
This is a House Record of NoteOn Shinichi records, on import only, this one crept in and appeared on the floor back in February. It hasn't been heard of since. I heard it recently, in an after hours club. The resident there is always right on the money and I've been introduced to many a gem in that club, including David Guetta's immortal "Just a Little More Love". Hearing this was just as impactful.
There's a slew of mixes available, but for real tribal enjoyment go for the Tommyboy mix. The funkier Richard Earnshaw mix is the one most favoured. The original is dark and all about the bass, and the one I'm going to ask you to take note of.
In reality you should get hold of the whole lot - a great collection and it really adds an atmospheric and moody edge to a dance floor, a progressive and intimate tune and one that is plain sexy.
Dance with intent. You hunger for it.

Purposeful
Purple House - "Celebrate" (Tignino & Leo remix) [2005]
This is a House Record of NoteHonestly, I've no idea who these guys are. I don't know where this one has come from, but I can tell you where it's going. Stright in my box, where it's not leaving. It's another beautiful guitar-driven summer-sunset style house tune. The original is lovely and the vocals are pretty good, but I've chosen this remix to be worthy of note just because it adds a moodier feel and some more 2005 production tweaks to add a real emphasis to the sub bass and extra contrast to the sparkling guitar chord progression. The moody interludes and happy chorus are refreshingly well balanced. I'll be checking the new releases for more from these guys.
The guitar break when it kicks in is all as swirly and pretty as you hope, the vocal is made more subtle, and the underlying guitar part is given the focus. Oh, you know what, I love it. Just like I loved Bob Sinclar's Love Generation, so I love this.
It's time to celebrate.

Armin van Buuren feat. Gabriel & Dresden - "Zocalo" (Album Version) [2005]
This is a Trance Record of NoteWonderful - a fine trance producer, responsible for some fantastic records over the course of his career. He is particularly good at collaborations and this record benefits from all his experience. He pulls in my favourite dark-trance duo and their teamwork produces a really emotional and interesting piece of music.
Using the haunting guitar licks that Gabriel and Dresden use to great effect in their own productions (especially the phenomenal
Beautiful Things under their alias
Andain), this record carries a solemn and resonating message. The simplicity of the sound is layered amongst perfectly balanced layers, the strings are signature Armin, and all of the power of a
G&D breakdown remains. This would draw a tear from my eye should it be staged amongst similar sounding records in a stadium set and if the DJ was orchastrating the floor with the same emotion with which this record has been written. This is art. It deserves a perfect dancefloor of discerning and respectful clubbers for it to be exhibited.
Currently only available as part of the advance promos for Armin's new album,
Shivers. Snag it at
Juno.
