Rasmus Faber - "Get Over Here (Axwell Mix)" [2005]

This is a House Record of Note

Axwell, well known for the summer anthem "Feel the Vibe", works his magic into this number adding an engaging riff and working the vocal really smoothly into the mix. One more for the plinky, plucky synth-piano house crowd, the man behind this, Axel Hedfors has been busy in the studio and other notable reworkings are his mixes of Hard-Fi's "Hard to Beat" and C-Mos's "2 Million Ways". Look out too for his alias Mambana (featuring Isabel Fructuoso of Afro Medusa). "Get Over Here" is a great record and cements Axwell as a hot talent. His streaming mixes online are worth a listen for that funky fix we all need.

Find him online here.

You can get a copy of the tune from Juno. It's on the Azuli "Silver" label.

Late Night Alumni - "Empty Streets" (Seamus Haji & Paul Emmanuel Remix) [2005]

This is a House Record of Note

Well, Teeg never misses a good tune, and his producers of the year are the boys behind the remix on this Hed Kandi tune. The reason I like this is all down to the vocal. I'm a big fan of my emotional trance, and this record has a vocal reminiscent of the best of that genre. A flowing melodic and haunting voice - the lyrics are great. But this is a house tune and it's only the mastery of these producers that saves it from failing to work in the house genre. It could have all gone wrong. I think that this tune could work in the trance arena as well, which is why I am recommending it.

You can get a copy from Juno on vinyl, or look for it on some Hed Kandi CDs, although this version is normally mixed in.

Coburn - "We Interrupt This Programme" (JCA Remix) [2005]

This is a Trance Record of Note

Pete Martin and Tim Healey collaborate here on their third release, and man is it of note! Pete is of Cass & Slide fame, and the production talents shine through here. Of all the available and notable mixes I've gone for a recommendation on the JCA remix.

Those of you with an eagle eye will note that JCA are the initials of our man Jean Claude Ades, who was responsible for the last recommended tune. So you know the emphasis is on the electro and the funk, and he does not disappoint. I can't get enough of it, certainly a producer to look to for in the last half of this year and the beginning of the next.

Coburn's wicked synth line and JCA's mad effects and sense of pounding dancefloor momentum really inject a sense of urgency and angry euphoria into this tune. It just keeps me coming back for more. Simple, stuttered vocals pep the interest and keep the ear engaged in the momentary respites that are the interludes: a great time to play with external effects. There's nothing like throwing in some distortion or flange just when the tune is getting ready to go play in techno-synth-land again; makes it a great record for active Djing.

DJDownload had it on promo for a while, but the JCA mix is currently only available digitally from overseas. Of course it's available on vinyl, so hit up Juno. It's coming out on Data records in the UK, so expect a fresh digital release soon.

Listen to a sample of the JCA mix here.

I love all the formats and have all the kit to do them justice, so for me it's all about just owning the tune. Remember: DJs play music to connect and communicate - the format doesn't matter, it's the delivery that counts.

Jean Claude Ades - "Fly Away" (Main Mix) [2005]

This is a House Record of Note

Tom Novy, man of notable tune "Your Body" has been raving about this tune. It's a great record, blessed with atmospheric vocals and a funky electro beat that is fuelling a lot of productions at the moment. I think all the house producers have the same synthesizer, or are otherwise all getting drunk at the same parties and sharing ideas. Or they're all the same person.

Needless to say, if you enjoy the more elctro beatsand are after an interesting contrast between the beats and the voice then check it out.

You can get a copy from DJ Download for £1.49.

Gabriel & Dresden - "Arcadia" (G&D's Swing to Chunk Remix) [2005]

This is a Trance Record of Note

Why? Because it is perfect. Because Gabriel & Dresden are producers who understand what trance music is really about. The mood they create with this record and the manner in which it is created reminds me of classic movements. This work teases you with the knowledge that you will have to listen and enjoy and just damn well wait for the moment when all of the emotion and all of the build up and all of the longing are rewarded. It's fantastic.

It starts with hints of the main riff and builds in more layers until you cannot wait for the final kick in. Then, in a stroke of perfect timing G&D drop out into a breakdown, introduce some atmospheric and emotive chords that perfectly layer into a beautifully rousing and building riff before plunging you back into the earlier territory, retaining the emotion, widening the soundscape and then finally giving you the full riff that they have teased you with all record. Worth waiting for? Immensley.

You can get a copy from DJ Download for 99p.
